Freehold Native, Former Frequency Engineering Labs Supervisor Dies at 89

Hillman Kennett was known to many as "The Cakeman."

Hillman Kennett, Sr., 89, of Maryville, TN passed away at his son’s home on Feb. 6. He was born, raised and had lived in Freehold Township before moving to Jackson and settling to Maryville, TN. Prior to his retirement from Frequency Engineering Laboratories, Farmingdale as a maintenance supervisor in 1987, Hillman worked at A & M Karagheusian Rug Mill. He was a former member of theNew Egypt Elks and was known to many as "The Cakeman."

Hillman was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Naomi Kennett; four sons, Hillman Kennett, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Maryville, TN, Howard Kennett and his wife, Barbara of Glendale, AZ, Joseph Kennett and his wife, Donna of Freehold Township, and Richard Kennett and his wife, Sharon of Lanoka Harbor; two daughters, Phoebe Mina and her husband, Joseph of Palmetto, FL and Veronica Kennett of Freehold Township; nineteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, Feb. 8 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 9 with the Rev.
