Freehold Resident Josephine Valdes Dies at 87

Josephine Valdes, 87, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Saturday, December 21, 2013. Josephine was born in Cuba coming to the US in 1956 living in Irvington, Scotch Plains, and Bedminster before moving to Freehold Township 10 years ago. She was a seamstress for La Louise Bridals, in Irvington and Stan Sommer, Westfield retiring in 1985. 

Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Jose Valdes in 2004. She is survived by three children, Josephine Zappia of Freehold Township, John Valdes and his wife, Mary Beth of Jackson and Michael Valdes and his wife, Shawn of Gladstone; six grandchildren, Nicholas Zappia and his wife, Maria of Kendall Park, Deanna Dougherty and her husband, Brian of Freehold Township, Lindsey Valdes of Brick, Kimberly Valdes of Brick , Allison Valdes of Bridgewater and Nicole Garubo of Gladstone; five great grandchildren, Emma Dougherty, Matthew Dougherty, Nicholas Zappia, Claudia Zappia and Marcus Valdes; and a sister, Maria Ossorio of Elizabeth.

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 9:00 AM for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township for her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass. Entombment to follow in St Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum, Bridgewater.
