FTHS Graduate David Donald Haneke Dies at 38

Born and raised in Freehold Township

David Donald Haneke, 38, of Toms River, died peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center surrounded by his loving and devoted family.  David was born in Freehold Township and attended local schools there.  He was a graduate of Freehold Township High School and a 2001 graduate of St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.   David began his professional career as a Hudson County Probation Officer where he worked until 2005, when he was appointed a United States Probation Officer.  He served proudly in that position until his death. He enjoyed going to the beach, playing softball, going on cruises with his wife, Melissa, and attending baseball games with his dad.  David was a devoted friend of all animals and provided a home for many cats.  He was a dedicated fan of the Mets. 

David was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, George and Gladys Haneke; and his maternal grandfather, Michael Faresich.  He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; his parents, Lia and Donald Haneke of Freehold; his dear sister, Lisa Calabrese and her husband, Michael of Brick; and his maternal grandmother, Rina Faresich of Jackson; his uncle and aunt, Thomas and Georgia Haneke of Utah; three cousins; his in-laws, Marie and Gregory Gullstrand of Hawley, PA; and his sister-in-law, Kelly Gullstrand  of Hawley, PA.  David had many friends and professional colleagues.  No one who knew him will ever forget him. 

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold for his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David’s memory may be made to Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ  07724 or Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Boulevard, Brick, NJ 08723.
