Alfonso Barba, Jr., 81, of Freehold died at home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 21.
Barba was born, raised, and lived his whole life in Brooklyn, NY before retiring to Freehold in December 1999. He retired as a purchasing agent for Thermodynamics, Brooklyn in 1992. Prior to that Barba owned and operated his own livery service in Brooklyn.
He was a parishioner of in Freehold Township and a former parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
Barba was predeceased by his parents, Alfonso & Teresa Barba; two brothers, Rudolf and Ernest; five sisters, Marie, Teresa, Anna, Elvira, and Connie. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Antoinette “Ann” Barba; two sons, Alfonso Barba III and his wife, Teresa of Freehold Township and Anthony Barba of Brooklyn; two daughters, Teresa Erlitz and her husband, David of Manalapan and Patricia Gorkhover and her husband, Sanya of Brooklyn; six grandchildren, Alfonso Barba IV, Christina Barba, Anthony Barba, Jr., Becky Erlitz, Dana Erlitz, and Mark Gorkhover; a sister, Clara Pileggi of Brooklyn; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting at the will be on Thursday, May 24 and Friday, May 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday, May 26 at 7:00 a.m. for the procession to for his 8:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
