Obituary: Gerry Plescia, 23, Freehold Borough HS Class of 2009

The former high school athlete was found unresponsive at his hotel room in St. Padre Island while vacationing on spring break, according to news reports.

Gerry Plescia, 23, of Freehold Township died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in South Padre Island, TX.

Gerry was born in Salem, MA and had lived in Mahwah before moving to Freehold Township in 1996.

A senior at Westchester University, Westchester, PA, Gerry was a graduate of Freehold Borough High School Class of 2009 where he was a member and co-captain of the varsity football team and also played varsity basketball and baseball.

He played in the Kronum League in Westchester, PA and was communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colts Neck. 

Gerry was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mary Jacona in 2005; and his paternal grandmother, Joyce Plescia who passed away on March 16, 2014.

He is survived by his mother and father, Lorraine and Gerald Plescia of Freehold Township; his sister, Ashley Plescia of Hoboken; his maternal grandfather, Anthony Jacona of New York City; and his paternal grandfather, Bart Plescia of Naples, FL. 

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 9:00 AM Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, One Phalanx Road, Colts Neck.

Entombment to follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleums, Marlboro.

A truly great young man i was lucky enough to welcome into my life for the last 4 and a half years. He was the most loving person ive ever come into contact with and i send my deepest sympathies to his family and closest friends. I am sad to say that we have lost a truly great person, however, he will always be in my heart and i will live the rest of my life knowing that Gerry impacted me. I loved him and always will. Rest in peace my man, you will truly be missed.
