Obituary: Philip R. Engel, Sr., 66

Engel played and was a captain for the Men's C League Rec Softball in Freehold Twp.

Philip R. Engel, Sr., 66, of Freehold Township died surrounded by his family at home on Monday, May 28. 

Engel was born in New York City and was raised and had lived in Middletown before settling to in 1973.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran Reservist serving during the Vietnam War. Engel owned and operated Benton Bindery, Carlstadt for the past thirty-five years.  He played and was a captain for the Men’s C League Rec Softball in Freehold Twp. 

Engel was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Veronica Engel and a brother, Ronald Engel.  He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Philip R. Engel, Jr. and his wife, Angela of Howell and Stephen Engel of Freehold Twp.; two daughters, Christine Ricardo and her husband, Carlos of Freehold Twp. and Courtney Kaufman and her husband, Herb of Freehold Twp; eight grandchildren, Alexis, Alyssa, Alivia, Anthony, Jake, Brianna, Gianna, and Daniel; a brother, John Engel and his wife, Sara of Lodi; four sisters, Barbara Toth and her husband, William of Union Beach, Diane O’Rourke and her husband, James of Manchester, Ginger Sayre and her husband, George of Barnegat, and Patti Godley and her husband, Victor of Port Monouth; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at at a date and time to be announced.  Arrangements will be made by .
