Obituary: Walter "Bob" Speck, 79, of Freehold

From 1956 to 1958 he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Radarman Petty Officer First Class.

Walter Robert “Bob” Speck, 79, of Freehold passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014. Bob was born to the late Walter and Theresa Speck on September 13, 1934 in Paterson. He graduated from Luke’s High School in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Fordham University in New York City in 1960. 

From 1956 to 1958 he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Radarman Petty Officer First Class.

Bob married Jean Tassielli in 1967 and they lived together in Mendham and North Caldwell before retiring to Toms River in 2000. He and Jean moved to Applewood Estates Retirement Community in Freehold in 2009. Bob was a successful commodities broker and a salesman in various industries until he retired in 1999. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Christopher and his wife, Olga, Gregory and his wife, Jeanette and Eric; and five grandchildren, Lauren, Caroline, Steven, Courtney and Gary.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 9:00 AM for the procession to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township for his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass.
