Obituary: William 'Bill' R. Vistein, 68

Vistein of Freehold Township was active in his community and on a ski slope and golf green. He was a family man and a special education teacher for 40 years.

William “Bill” R. Vistein, 68, of Freehold Township died on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011 surrounded by his family at . Vistein was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Howell Twp. in 1964 before settling to Freehold Twp. in 1998.

He was a graduate of Clarion University and worked as a special education teacher for the Howell Twp Board of Education, grades K-8th for 40 years.  He was a former member of the , Freehold. Vistein was also a former director and volunteer for the Howell Twp. Special Olympics. In retirement, Vistein worked for the Howell P.A.L. and the Monmouth County Park Systems at the Charleston Springs Golf Course. Vistein was an avid skier and golfer and had a passion for travel. He had an undying love for his Steelers but his heart belonged to his family.

Vistein is survived by his wife, Diane; two sons, Zachary Carroll of Freehold Twp. and Bryce Carroll of Freehold Twp.; three daughters, Paula Reese and her husband Matt of Chester Springs, PA, Nancy Martter and her husband, Scott of Wilmington, DE, and Caitlyn Carminito and her husband, James of Phoenixville, PA; three grandchildren, Alexandria, Gabrielle and Rebecca Reese; and a sister, Margaret Wesolek of Pittsburgh, PA.

A gathering at the , 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:30 a.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at , 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township, NJ. Interment will be private.
