US Army Veteran and Member of Carpenters Union, Dies at 93

Services for Grandin C. W. Thompson will begin on Friday, March 8 at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home.

Grandin C. W. Thompson, 93, of Freehold Township died on Tuesday, March 5 at Wedgwood Gardens in Freehold Township.

Thompson was born in the Cassville section of Jackson and was a lifelong resident of Freehold Township. He was a US Army Veteran serving during WWII and was a member of Local 2018 (now 255) Carpenters Union for 65 years, 36 years of which he served as Financial Secretary.

Prior to being a Financial Secretary, Thompson was a Trustee. He was also a member of Siloam United Methodist Church as a lay leader, past President of the Administrative Board and served as President of the Board of Trustees, which he sat on since the age of 16.

Thompson was predeceased by his wife, Christina P. Thompson this past January. He is survived by two sons, John O. Thompson and his wife, Theresa of Freehold Township and Glenn W. Thompson and his wife, Cynthia of Lakewood.

Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, March 9 with Rev. Mary Jones officiating. Interment to follow in Harmony Cemetery, Jackson.
