Frugal Family: Apple Picking, Hayrides and Halloween

There is plenty of fall fun to be had at local orchards and markets in Monmouth County.

Have you enjoyed the seasonal change in the weather? Fall is something special in Monmouth County. Farms and businesses around the area offer pumpkin picking, haunted hayrides, fall festivals and more. Keep your calendar ready, because in the coming weeks, we will have you busy from now until Thanksgiving!

Halloween comes to life Brock Farms beginning in mid-September. Brock Farms unveiled its Halloween Impressions stores in both locations. Search for the perfect costumes, masks and Halloween decorations. Other activities include a pick your own pumpkin patch and haunted houses. The Colts Neck store offers face painting on Saturdays.

Are you interested in tasty and beautiful looking vegetables? Love to pick your own? Head over to A. Casola Farms for pumpkins, fall squash, gourds, corn stalks, okra, hay, straw, seasonal flowers and bedding plants.

If you have older kids who think they’re past the Halloween hoopla, A. Casola Farms is offering nighttime haunted hayrides and pumpkin picking on Fridays and Saturdays in October. Eastmont Orchards
  • 169 Route 537, Colts Neck

Fall in Monmouth County means its apple picking time. Eastmont Orchards offers over a dozen varieties of apples. You can also pick your own pumpkins, gourds and squash. Eastmont Orchards is open 9 am. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday from now until October, weather permitting. Sickles Market will hold its fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 15; Sunday, Oct. 16; Saturday, Oct. 22; and Sunday, Oct. 23. The event will feature face painting, pumpkin painting, kid’s coloring and more. For more information, call 732-741-9563.
