Snack Attack at Freehold Raceway Mall

We all know shopping can be taxing work, and sometimes you need to refuel before braving the next store. Snacking is an age-old mall tradition, dating back to the time of the Orange Julius, and it’s alive and well in the . Next time you get a snack-attack, use this handy guide to the salty, the sweet, and everything in between. 

All Star Bagel. Besides the obvious, All Star offers hearty breakfast sandwiches and wraps. There is also a fresh selection of cookies, muffins, and the like. This shop also carries an array of reasonably-priced drinks, so you should forego the $3-a-pop vending machines. All Star is located downstairs next to JC Penney.

Auntie Anne’s/Wetzel’s Pretzels. For some reason, pretzels have cemented themselves as the consummate mall snack. They’re portable, convenient, filling – it’s not so hard to see why. And nowadays, the sky is the limit with flavored, filled, and bite-size versions. Auntie Anne’s is upstairs near the Cheesecake Factory entrance and Wetzel’s Pretzels is located in the food court.

For those coffee junkies – you know who you are – there are a couple options in our mall. First is this ubiquitous chain, conveniently located in the center of the mall downstairs. Sate your thirst with coffee, tea, smoothies and more, or snack on one of their pastries.

Gloria Jean’s. Coffee-drinkers have another option too, and this one is a more relaxed, inviting environment. On the lower level Macy’s wing, Gloria Jean’s is farther off the beaten path than Starbucks, so the seating here is a better deal.  Coffee detractors like me can also enjoy a wider range of cold and hot delicious beverages. 

Haagen-Dazs. If you’re more in the mood for something icy and refreshing than the hot fare of the coffee joints, stop by Haagen-Dazs upstairs by Guest Services. You can enjoy the ice cream or be more daring with a smoothie or the fruit-layered Dazzler.

Kohr Brothers. More cool confections abound at Kohr Brothers, which specializes in frozen custard. Their best offering, in my opinion, is the refreshing orange sherbet. Downstairs in the Macy’s wing, Kohr Brothers is also combined with a smaller Auntie Anne’s location here, so you can kill two birds with one stone!

Mrs. Fields. If your sweet tooth has a hankering, look no further than the upper level by the Cheesecake Factory entrance. Mrs. Fields deals in delicious gooey cookies and their variants (cookie cake, cookie cups, and so on.) If you’re in a real junk-food sweet spot, they also serve Icees. 

Street Corner News. For just about everything else, this newsstand underneath the food court is a godsend. From drinks to candy to gum to all sorts of snacks, you’ll be covered here. Bonus: you can also pick up some sundries like individual packets of Advil and lottery tickets.
