UPDATED: Bomb Scare at Colts Neck HS All Clear

The school was evacuated today, but local officials determined the building was clear.

A "vague, non-specific" bomb threat was received this morning at , which led to an evacuation of the building. According to the district, the threat was a written threat found within the building.

“The threat was actually a written message inside of a lavatory,” said Principal Keith Land in a news release.

According to the Freehold Regional High School District, local law enforcement was called into the school around 10:30 a.m., and the evacuation is a standard district procedure.

From the district:

Explosive detecting dogs were deployed as a part of the emergency response procedures.  No suspicious objects were found, and the administrators were cleared to prepare students for re-entry into the school.  Around 12:45 p.m., the students were escorted back into the school in tiers.  They were escorted to the school’s gymnasium initially, in order to expedite re-entry due to inclement weather.  Students were reported back into the classroom by 1:15 p.m.

“The students and staff cooperated magnificently.  We were able to execute our emergency evacuation plan expeditiously and ensure the safety of the students and staff,” Land said.

Students who were scheduled for math, technology or health and physical education midterm exams from periods five through 11 will take make-up mid-term exams next week on Feb. 1.
