Freehold Borough Officers Ride For a Cure

Event raises money in fight against diabetes.

Officers in the Freehold Borough Police Department are used to spending a lot of time on the roads but recently four of the more adventurous members got a different view of the Borough’s roads.

Officers Rich Ciampa, Shaun Hobbs, Sammy Hernandez and Michael Sweetman took part in the Tour de Cure, a fundraising bike ride to help battle diabetes. In order to take part in the event the riders had to gather donations before taking off on two wheels.

The Freehold officers were part of a group that traveled 62 miles through Monmouth County. The ride started in Asbury Park, wound through Holmdel and then returned to the starting point. “The reward was challenging but rewarding and we are looking forward to doing it again next year,” Sweetman said.
