Borough Police Seek Robbery Suspects

Cell phones reported taken in both incidents.

The Freehold Borough Police Department is investigating two recent armed robberies.

Lt. Michael Sweetman reported that on July 14 at approximately 1:43 a.m. a 25-year-old male was allegedly robbed of $1600 in cash and a cell phone valued at $250 on Cottage Place. Sweetman reported that the alleged victim reported to police he was robbed after walking home from Pepe’s deli. He reported noticing while walking home that two people were following him and walking faster than he was.

One of the subjects reportedly told the victim in spanish to give them his wallet when the second subject pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim’s money according to Sweetman. One of the subjects then allegedly punched the victim in the face before reaching into his pocket to take the money and the phone and running away. One subject was described as wearing a black shirt and the other one wearing a white shirt. They are believed to be between the ages of 23 and 25.

The second alleged robbery occurred at 2:57 a.m. on July 21. Sweetman said a 25-year-old male victim reported being robbed on Broadway after walking home from the downtown area. The victim reported two subjects following him before being approached by the pair. They then allegedly pulled out a gun, grabbed him and forced him to give them his phone.

 One subject is described as having dark skin and black hard with a medium build and standing between 5-9 and 6-1. The second is described as having light skin and a thin build with short hair between 5-5 and 5-9.

Sweetman said the victim in the second robbery flagged down Ptl. Eduardo Santana who was on a routine patrol through the area. Both incidents are being investigated by Det. John Reiff.
