Charges include burglary and theft.

The Freehold Borough Police Department announced an arrest on Tuesday of a suspect believed to be linked to many burglaries in the township since August.

Lt. Michael Sweetman said 32-year-old Borough resident Gregory Carter was arrested on September 8 on warrants for burglary and theft. He said the department has been investigating more than a dozen car burglaries since late August.

Det. Rich Schwerthoffer has taken the lead in the investigation which brought about Carter’s arrest on 10 counts of burglary and 10 counts of theft. Sweetman reported he was handed over to Ptl. Walter Perski on nine outstanding warrants and one criminal summons. He was taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution after his bail was set at $100,000.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information about the recent burglaries is encouraged to contact Det. Schwerthoffer at 732-462-1333.
