A Brick man was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with stabbing another township man earlier in the night.
Police responded to an emergency call at 10:05 p.m. Monday night reporting that a man had been beaten at 1448 Brentwood Avenue during an alleged argument, Brick Police Capt. John Rein said.
When police arrived at the scene, officers and medical personnel determined Richard Peal, a 33-year-old township resident, had suffered a severe stab wound to his abdomen as well as additional lacerations.
Peal was treated on scene by Brick Police EMS and MONOC paramedics and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by ambulance. The stab wounds are not being considered life-threatening, Rein said.
An investigation into the incident led to the arrest of Thomas Mitchell, 34, a Vista Court resident. Mitchell was arrested at about 3 a.m. after being located at his home, Rein said.
Mitchell has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of weapon for an unlawful purpose. Bail was set at $75,000 cash by Municipal Court Judge Robert LePore. Mitchell has been transported to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.
The incident is still under investigation to determine what, exactly, led to the stabbing. Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the Brick Township Police Investigative Division at 732-262-1120.
