Cigarette Causes Mattress Fire

A cigarette was the cause of Freehold Township fire Monday afternoon, according to Freehold Township police.

and the responded to a fire at 6 Windsor Terrace in the Stonehurst apartments at 3:30 p.m.

“It was a small bed fire. Nobody was hurt. It was put out with fire extinguishers,” said Sgt. Scott Keenan.

The resident told police that a cigarette lit the mattress on fire, Keenan said. The damage was not extensive and the resident was allowed to return to the apartment.
