Four Persons Injured in 2-Car Accident

Medevac helicopters were called in to transport critically injured victims to hospitals.

Four persons were injured, three of them critically, in an accident involving two cars on Route 522, near the Route 9 overpass in Freehold Township Wednesday night, police said.

Victims were being transported to hospitals via medevac helicopters shortly after 10 p.m. The three helicopters landed in a field near the St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.

Traffic was rerouted for several hours.

Freehold Township police responded to the accident site, along with officers from the Manalapan Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office. Freehold First Aid, Manalapan First Aid, East Freehold Fire Company and Gordons Corner Fire Company of Manalapan were also on scene. Marlboro First Aid transported the stable accident victim.

Freehold Township police and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team conducted an accident investigation late into the evening. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
