Freehold Borough Police Blotter: DYFS Investigation Leads to Arrest

Arrests and incidents in Freehold Borough from April 7 through April 18.

The Freehold Borough Police Department reported the following arrests and incidents for Thursday, April 7 through Monday, April 18:

  • On Thursday, April 7, Patrolman Nicholas Iozzi stopped a vehicle driven by Jahmar Powell, 19, of Freehold Borough, at 2 am. On Institute St. Iozzi asked Powell to step from the vehicle to perform a balance test and later brought him to the police station for a breathalyzer. While Powell’s breathalyzer test fell under the 0.08 blood alcohol content limit, he was charged with underage driving while intoxicated because he was under 21 years of age.
  • On Friday, April 15, police were called in by Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) representatives to assist the agency at a home on First St. at 6:30 p.m. According to the Freehold Borough Police Department, DYFS was conducting an investigation at the home when the representatives discovered what they believed to be cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the bedroom of Ezequiel Acevedo-Perez, 30. Detective Michael George arrested Acevedo-Perez and charged him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Acevedo-Perez was processed on a warrant and sent to Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $2,500 bail.
  • On Monday, April 18, Sgt. Christopher Colaner stopped a vehicle driven by Leonel Luna Ortega, 22, of Freehold Borough, at 1:32 a.m. Colaner detected an odor of alcohol and administered a balance test. Colaner brought Luna Ortega to the police station where he refused a breathalyzer test. Luna Ortega was charged with driving while intoxicated.
