Freehold Restaurants Feed Firefighters After Hurricane Irene

Sweet Lew's and Sorrento's Subs brought free food to the firehouse Sunday.

When Hurricane Irene downed trees and power lines and trees throughout Freehold Borough, some 30 volunteer firefighters stayed on the job all night Saturday, Aug. 27 into Sunday, Aug. 28 responding to calls. Their efforts did not go unnoticed by area business owners and residents.

On Sunday morning, owner Keith Lewis treated firefighters to a full breakfast, bringing over free trays of food from the restaurant, according to Freehold Borough Fire Department Chief Ryan Bailey.

“It was really nice of them,” Bailey said.

also brought free food to the firehouse Sunday as firefighters finished responding to 85 storm-related calls, Councilman Michael DiBenedetto said.
