Freehold Township Police Blotter: Driver of Overturned Car Charged With DWI

Arrests and incidents in Freehold Township from April 3 to April 15.

The Freehold Township Police Department reported the following arrests for Sunday, April 3 through Friday, April 15: 21 for contempt of court and 12 for shoplifting.

On Sunday, April 3, Ryan Boehm, 27, of East Windsor, was observed exiting and entering Freehold Raceway Mall and acting in a suspicious manner by loss prevention employees. Freehold Township police were call to the scene, and $489 worth of merchandise from various stores was found in a vehicle Boehm had access to. At 5:45 p.m., Police Officer Thomas Goetke arrested and charged Boehm receiving stolen property.

On Wednesday, April 6, police responded to an Ely Harmony Road residence at noon. The owner discovered the home had been burglarized and various items had been removed. Detective George Burdge and Detective Daniel Valentine are investigating.

On Saturday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m., Police Officer James Burdge attempted to serve two outstanding warrants on an individual he observed at Freehold Raceway Mall. According to the Freehold Township police, Robert Joseph Tapanes, 29, of Union, gave false information about his identity to Burdge when approached. He then allegedly ran a short distance before being apprehended and taken into custody. Tapanes had an outstanding $1,000 warrant from Englishtown and a $2,000 warrant from Woodbridge. Tapanes was arrested and charged with resisting arrest and hindering apprehension. His bail was set at $5,000.

On Wednesday, April 14 at 4:25 p.m., Police Officer Clay Davis responded to a crash involving an overturned 2009 Jeep Liberty at Route 33 and Route 9. The driver, Lisa Saunders, 42, of Lodi, was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. After an investigation by the Freehold Township Police Department, Saunders was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

On Friday, April 15, police and firefighters responded to a Remington Drive home. Black smoke was billowing from the door, and the homeowner reported flames coming from the dryer while laundry was being done. Monmouth County Fire Marshal Vito Marra deemed the fire accidental.

Donation

Walter Burke donated a large quantity of starter pistols and blank cartridges last month on behalf of his aunt, Jean Bohn. Bohn acquired the equipment during her tenure as director of the New Jersey Tournament of Champions.

The Freehold Township Police Department will use the equipment for law enforcement training purposes.
