UPDATE: FRHSD School Bus and Car Collide Near Freehold High School

Freehold Borough police state the cause of the crash a was a timing misjudgment.

A Freehold Regional High School District (FRHSD) school bus was rear-ended by a car early Tuesday morning on Route 79 near the student parking lot of Freehold High School.

According to Freehold Borough police, the accident occurred at approximately 7:06 a.m. and caused about a 20 minute delay to travelers on Broadway. A press released issued by the FRHSD stated that a total of 37 Freehold High School students were on the bus when it was hit.

Nakell Williams, FRHSD Communication and District Project coordinator, explained that eight students on the bus were transported to CentraState Medical Center after the accident. Six of those students have been discharged. The remaining two students were receiving shoulder and ankle x-rays.

The press release explained that both the driver and passenger of the car that rear-ended the bus are Manalapan High School students. They were both unharmed after the accident.

Freehold Borough Police Chief Glen Roberts stated that the accident was caused by a driving misjudgment. Roberts explained that the driver saw the bus turning into the school, but didn't get their timing right and ended up rear-ending the bus.
