Howell Resident Charged With Freehold Armed Robbery

11-count indictment includes weapons and armed robbery charges in Freehold and Howell.

A Howell man is accused of committing a string of armed robberies in Western Monmouth over a four-year period.

Edgar Torres, 44, of North American Drive has been indicted on 11 counts by a Monmouth County grand jury for five incidents stretching from November 2006 to February 2011. 

The first count of the indictment is second degree conspiracy. On or about Nov. 15, 2006 he is alleged to have agreed with another person in Farmingdale to commit the crime of armed robbery. He also faces one count of first degree armed robbery for being in possession of a handgun during a theft. Torres also faces one count of second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for having the handgun.

Torres also faces one count of fourth degree armed robbery for an incident in Freehold Township on or about Oct. 28, 2009. He also faces a count of second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for that incident as well. 

The sixth count of the indictment is first degree armed robbery. Those charges stem from an incident on or about Dec. 22, 2010 in Howell for which he was also charged with second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Torres also faces another count of first degree armed robbery for an incident on Jan. 24, 2011 in Howell for which he faces another count of second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The tenth count of the indictment is for first degree armed robbery for an incident that happened in Ocean on Feb. 16, 2011. Torres also faces a charge of second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for a handgun in that incident as well.
