Borough Police Arrest Two on Drug Charges

arrested two Howell residents, Jimmy Tran, 20, and Mark Vong, 20, after noticing suspicious activity.

According to Freehold Borough Police , an older model Lexus was stopped on Barkalow Avenue at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19. After surveillance of the area, allegedly noticed suspicious activity going on in the car.

Richmond approached the car and after speaking with Tran, he requested a K-9 dog from the Sheriff's Office. The dog indicated that there was a controlled dangerous substance in the trunk of the car and on the driver’s side door of the car. At that time, Richmond seized the car, and brought it back to Freehold Borough Police Headquarters where the registered owner of the Lexus consented to a search of the vehicle.

The search allegedly revealed a clear plastic bag with vegetative matter inside a work boot and an open bag containing three vacuumed sealed bags of a controlled dangerous substance believed to be marijuana.

Both Tran and Vong were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance under five pounds, possession of a controlled dangerous substance over 50 grams, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

According to Freehold Borough Police, the controlled dangerous substance in all of the charges is marijuana.

Both Tran and Vong have been remanded to the on $40,000 bail each.
