Lakewood Council Names Third Street In Honor of Christopher Matlosz

Officer killed in the line of duty has street in front of Lakewood Police Headquarters named in his honor.

The Lakewood Township Council has renamed the street in front of police headquarters in honor of Officer Christopher Matlosz. 

Many of Matlosz's family and friends, including his fiancee Kelly Walsifer, attended the Thursday ceremony that culminated with the street sign being unveiled.

Reports estimated more than 100 people braved the cold winter night to honor the fallen officer.

Matlosz, a graduate of Howell High School and a resident of Manchester, was killed in the line of duty last month.

Prior to 2006 when he joined the Lakewood Police Department, Matlosz started his interest in police as a member of the Howell High School Police Explorer's Club. He also served as a special officer in Long Branch, Manasquan and Freehold Township.

Jahmell Crockham, an 19-year-old Lakewood resident has been charged with Matlosz's murder and is scheduled to have his next court appearance on Feb. 28.
