Man Charged with Car Theft

A Farmingdale man was arrested and charged with allegedly taking a car without permission from the owner.

Joseph Mercado, 45, of Farmingdale, was arrested by , and charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle on Monday, March 26.

According to the complaint warrant, Mercado, purposely and knowingly took a 2005 Pontiac while it was parked at the victim’s place of work, located in the Borough.

Freehold Borough Police Lieutenant Mark Wodell, explained that the car was found in Sea Bright in the possession of Mercado.

Mercado’s bail was set at $20,000. His first court appearance is scheduled for today, March 27.
