Mayor: Police Directed Traffic on Route 9 After Power Outage

A problem at a JCP&L substation in Howell caused the outage, according to township administrator.

A problem at a JCP&L substation in Howell has led to power outages in the area, according to Freehold Township Administrator Peter Valesi.

"It's not a flood or fire. JCP&L is having an issue at the Howell substation," Valesi said.

Power was restored to all customers at 5:25 p.m., according to Roberta Sheridan, a JCP&L spokesperson.

Mayor David Salkin said Freehold Township police officers were dispatched to Route 9 during the outage because five lights were without electricity. Officers directed traffic at the intersections, Salkin said.

Some 2,772 customers were without power in Freehold Friday afternoon, according to Sheridan.
