Members of Freehold Township PBA Take On Boeing 737 At Annual Plane Pull

Proceeds of the Plane Pull will benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.

This weekend members of the Freehold Township PBA 209 may face one of their toughest challenges as they participate in the 2012 Plane Pull.

Beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 the Freehold Township PBA will work together to pull a Boeing 737 plane weighing over 93,000 lbs. across the tarmac at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Freehold Township PBA team, led by Detective Todd Smith, has participated in this event for the past six years. In 2011, they raised $1,100 at the Plane Pull. The department also participates in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.

At the Plane Pull, each team will compete in two events: Fastest Pull, in which the teams attempt to pull the aircraft 12 feet in the least amount of time; and Lowest Combined Weight Pull, where the team with the lowest team weight that pulls the aircraft 12 feet during a two-minute limit wins. There is also a category for highest fundraiser. The minimum team donation to participate is $1,000.

The event, now in its 16th year, is hosted by United Airlines and Port Authority of NY & NJ as part of Airport Family Day and is one of a series of events throughout the year sponsored by the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics New Jersey.
