Monmouth Prisoner Hospitalized After Suicide Attempt

Inmate stabilized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

A prisoner at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution has been hospitalized following an attempted suicide, officials said.

Correctional and medical staff were "immediately alerted" of the incident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m., Monmouth County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Cynthia Scott said. The staff quickly halted the attempted suicide and stabilized the male prisoner.

The prisoner was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Scott said. The inmate has been stabilized and is continuing to receive treatment.

Freehold First Aid, MONOC and a MONOC helicopter responded to the scene.

Further information could not be provided, as it would compromise the safety and security of the facility, Scott said.
