Monmouth's Acting Prosecutor Not Shipping Off To War Zone

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor's orders to Afghanistan have been canceled.

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni will not be shipping off to Afghanistan this fall, authorities said Tuesday.

Gramiccioni, a Lt. Commander in the Navy Reserves, had earlier this year been given orders to ship out to the warzone in September for a nine-month tour. Those orders have been scrubbed, according to a release from the Prosecutor’s Office.

Gramiccioni, a Judge Advocate General Corps officer in the Naval Reserves, got word of his deployment in January. He was assigned to detainee operations as part of the effort to withdraw U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan at the end stages of a war that has so far lasted more than 11 years. Most foreign troops will leave by the end of 2014.

But this week Gramiccioni was told to stand at ease.

“The outpouring of support from the people in my office and people all across the state meant so much to me and my family during the lead-up to this deployment,” Gramiccioni said in the release. ”I am blessed to work with all these outstanding people and touched by the kindnesses extended by everyone – thank you.”
