Freehold Township Police Confirm: No Weapon at Movie Theater

A movie theater at the AMC Loews Metroplex was evacuated when moviegoers believed a man had a weapon.

Freehold Township police were called to the AMC Loews Metroplex on Sunday to investigate a man other movie theater patrons thought to have a weapon. However, no weapon was found.

Police evacuated the theater where the person believed to have a weapon was. According to Township Police, the individual was a 22-year-old Freehold man with severe autism.

“Whenever a gun was referenced in the movie the individual was watching he would point to his black bag and say ‘me too’,” explained Sgt. Jerry Kiwit. “He never actually showed a weapon, but people became nervous and the movie was stopped.”
