Pair Indicted for Fatal Shooting Outside Elks Lodge

Brandon Montes and Terrell Ryans are accused of the murder of Rodney Keys and the attempted murder of Tyrone Ellis.

Brandon Montes, 30, of New York City, and Terrell Ryans, 24, of Trenton, were indicted by a grand jury on Monday, Feb. 7 in connection with a May 3, 2008 shooting in Freehold that left one dead and another injured, according to a press release issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Montes and Ryans have been charged with murder and attempted murder under the indictment.

On the night of the shooting, Rodney Keys, 38 and Tyrone Ellis, 36, both Freehold Borough residents, left the Walter J. Conley Elks Lodge at 2 a.m. and were pulling out of the parking lot across from the lodge when a verbal argument began with a group of men that included Ryans and Montes, according to the prosecutor’s office. Ryans allegedly pulled out a gun, and Montes is accused of taking the gun and shooting into Ellis’ car.

Ellis, who was shot twice, drove to the Freehold Borough Police Department where Keys, who was shot multiple times, was pronounced dead, the press release stated. Ellis survived his wounds.
