Pedestrian Critically Injured in Tuesday Accident

Taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition.

An accident on South Street closed forced the temporary closure of the road and sent a pedestrian to the hospital by medivac helicopter.

Lt. Michael Sweetman of the Freehold Borough Police Department reported the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. when the car was driving toward the downtown area when the driver hit the pedestrian between Institute Street and McLean Street.

The pedestrian, Inocencio Calderon-Silva, 48, with an unknown address was struck in front of St. Rose of Lima School. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in critical condition. Sweetman said as of Wednesday afternoon his condition remained the same.

Several local units responded to the scene including the Freehold Fire Department, the Freehold First Aid Squad, the Freehold Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team. The Monco Hospital Service Corporation also responded to the scene.

Sweetman said the incident is still under investigation.
