Pedestrian Killed in South Street Accident Identified

Freehold Township resident Julio Cesar Cruz Calvo, 34, was struck and killed Saturday.

Julio Cesar Cruz Calvo, 34, of Manchester Court in Freehold Township, was struck by a car and killed on Saturday, Feb. 26 while attempting to cross South Street near Moreau Avenue, police said.

According to officer Patrick Fallon of the Freehold Township Police Department, Cruz Calvo was wearing dark clothing and had been walking in a dimly lit section of South Street when he stepped into the roadway. A car driven by Maureen O’Shea, of Howell, hit Cruz Calvo. Freehold First Aid and a MONOC ambulance responded to the scene and transported Cruz Calvo and O’Shea to CentraState Medical Center. Cruz Calvo was later pronounced dead in the CentraState emergency room.

Cruz Calvo was not initially identified after the crash. Fallon and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team are continuing to investigate the accident. Any witnesses should contact Fallon at 732-462-7500.
