Police Report Multiple Burglaries in Crowne Pointe Development

The Freehold Township Police Department reports that five homes in the Crowne Pointe development have been victims of recent burglaries.

Since late October, five homes in the Crowne Pointe development located near Route 537 on Freehold Township’s border with Freehold Borough have been broken into and had jewelry stolen, Freehold Township police said.

The burglaries began at a Castle Drive home on Oct. 29, according to Detective Sgt. Jerry Kiwit. Since then, a Palace Place home was burgalized on Nov. 5, followed by a Tower Road home on Nov. 19. In addition to those houses, two more homes were burglaries on Nov. 22, one on Emerald Court and another on Empress Court.

Kiwit said police believe the homes were burglarized from the same person or persons.

“These five homes that have been burglarized are too close to one another and happened too close in time to one another for it not to be the same person or persons,” said Kiwit.

With the exception of one burglary, all have happened while it was dark. Kiwit said that the person or persons is breaking in through a window in the back and taking all jewelry they can find.

Kiwit attributed jewelry being taken due to the current high gold prices. The police have checked local pawn shops for the missing jewelry; however, according to NJ State Law, after 72-hours pawned gold is allowed to be sold and melted down.

Until the person, or persons, in charge of these burglaries is caught Kiwit suggested keeping lights on at home if you are going to be out at night. Kiwit also wants residents to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

“If you see anything suspicious, even just a car driving slowly, call the police and let us check it out,” said Kiwit.

He also commended the neighborhood for bonding together during these burglaries.

“The neighbors in Crowne Pointe have been great, it is my understanding that they have arranged a neighborhood watch and looking out for one another,” said Kiwit.

At the moment, police have an ongoing investigation into the recent burglaries and are following leads, Kiwit said.
