Two Men Accused of Attempted Murder in Alleged Parking Lot Pot Robbery

A Brick man and an East Orange man have been indicted on eight charges including attempted murder, attempted burglary, aggravated assault and conspiracy.

A Monmouth County grand jury voted to indict two men on multiple charges surrounding an alleged Dec. 20, 2011 murder attempt.

Caleb Applewhite, 28, of Brick and Brian Buchanan, 24, of East Orange, together face eight charges surrounding the incident. According to their indictment, the men allegedly agreed to work together to commit the crime of robbery and attempted murder.

The two men allegedly used force while committing a theft in Freehold. The indictment further explains that the two men purposefully attempted to inflict serious bodily injury upon a person by using a handgun.

According to a 2012 report, the incident took place in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory. Applewhite and Buchanan allegedly used a handgun to rob a man of marijuana.

The two men have been indicted on conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery aggravated assault, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. In addition, Applewhite was also charged with certain persons not to have weapons, a second-degree crime.
