Freehold Crime Statistics Detailed in Uniform Crime Report

The 2010 Uniform Crime Report released by the New Jersey State Police showed the state's overall violent crime rate holding steady, while nonviolent crime increased two percent from 2009 to 2010. The state murder rate jumped 16 percent, from 320 murders in 2009 to 372 murders in 2010.

In , incidents of violent crime, defined in the report as murder, rape, robbery, or aggravated assault, rose 19.5 percent from 41 in 2009 to 49 in 2010. The two murders reported in 2010 stem from the June stabbing deaths of restaurant owners Yao Chen and Yun Juan Chen. Two suspects were in custody within an hour of Yao Chen's body being discovered on South Street, according to a report by The Star-Ledger.

Freehold Borough nonviolent crime, defined as burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson, rose 12.2 percent from 245 incidents in 2009 to 275 in 2010.

Reports of domestic violence in Freehold Borough rose 9.7 percent from 176 incidents in 2009 to 193 in 2010. Bias incidents reported in the municipality saw a 76-percent decrease from 17 incidents in 2009 to four in 2010.

In , violent crime declined five percent from 39 incidents in 2009 to 37 in 2010. Nonviolent crime in Freehold Township increased 11.9 percent from 950 incidents in 2009 to 1,063 incidents in 2010.

Domestic violence reports in Freehold Township dropped 5.6 percent from 301 incidents in 2009 to 284 in 2010. Bias incidents in the municipality saw a 25 percent drop from 12 in 2009 to nine in 2010.
