Police: Man Runs From Cops, Shoplifts Along The Way

A Pennsylvania man stole a shirt from the mall while running from officers, according to an Freehold Township arrest warrant.

Walter L. Davis is a multi-tasker.

The 52-year-old Philadelphia man seemingly had a lot on his plate with Freehold Township Police officers running after him after Davis bolted to avoid arrest at the Freehold Raceway Mall on Monday, authorities said.

But Davis really wanted that $20 shirt from JCPenny before he left the store.

So he took it, and kept running, police said.

When he was caught before leaving the mall, that $20 shirt added an additional $2,500 to Davis’ bail, according to the arrest warrant.

It started with a traffic stop. And a fake Pennsylvania driver’s license that Davis gave to police, according to the warrant.

When police told Davis he was under arrest for the false ID, Davis ran, according to the warrant. The chase went through the JCPenny store of the mall.

Davis is charged with possession of a false ID, presenting a false ID, resisting arrest, theft and obstruction, the warrant says.

He was taken to Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $27,000 bail. He was listed as a prisoner Tuesday. Davis’ bail had been reduced to $20,000, according to jail records.
