Woman Allegedly Smuggled Marijuana, Cell Phone into Jail

An Asbury Park woman was indicted on three charges for allegedly trying to give marijuana and a phone to an inmate.

A grand jury indicted an Asbury Park woman Tuesday for allegedly trying to into the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township.

Stephanie Torrez, 27, is accused of bringing marijuana and the phone to the jail on Oct. 27, 2011 with the intent of distributing them to an inmate, 35-year-old Asbury Park resident , according to the initial arrest warrant.

Torrez allegedly wrapped the cell phone in duct tape and concealed the phone on her person when she was admitted to the jail, according to the arrest warrant.

The indictment charges Torrez with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, and attempted transfer of an electronic device to a person in a correctional facility. Williams was indicted on one count of attempted possession of an electronic device in a correctional facility.
