A Spot for Crafty Freehold Seniors

An office at the Freehold Township Senior Center has been repurposed as an arts and crafts room.

Crafty seniors no longer have to compete for space at the . An office at the center was converted into an arts and crafts room in early November.

“We looked at different options about the best use of the space,” said Sue McGough, superintendent of Freehold Township Parks & Recreation. “There were (scheduling) conflicts for space between people wanting to do crafts and people participating in classes. I brought the craft women into this room and asked what they thought about it as a craft room.”

Employees in the Parks & Recreation Department installed cabinets and repainted the room, said Township Administrator Peter Valesi.

The space was formerly the office of Senior Center Director Arlene Golub, who retired in September. McGough said when a new director is appointed, the employee will share an existing front office with other Senior Center workers.

She noted that the room will not be used exclusively for arts and crafts, but will be made available for other small group activities. In addition to using the room as a gathering space, crafters will be able to store their materials in the cabinets and display their work on the counter.
