Planning Board Approves New Car Dealership

Members of the Planning Board vote on the approval of building a new car dealership on Route 9 north in Freehold.

A long vacant business zone on Route 9 North near Throckmorton Road will house a Hyundai Car Dealership.

The Freehold Township Planning Board voted unanimously in on preliminary and final site plan for 75 Bannard Realty Group's proposal for the property during the governing body's the Dec. 1 meeting.

According to Gerald Sonnenblick, a Freehold Township-based attorney representing the applicant, the site will house a Hyundai car dealership office will of approximately 21,000 square-feet and a car lot.

Although a construction date has not yet been set, Sonnenblick said work on the site will begin as soon as possible.

"I assume they will begin construction as soon as they can, definitely in the spring if not sooner," he said.

The property that has been vacant for some time was once used as a Verizon office building. Once the company changed locations, the lot remained empty until 75 Bannard Realty Group purchased it for potential use as a car dealership. 

"All requests made by close residents of the lot and by township officials have been agreed to," Sonnenblick said. "It will be a nice addition to the town."
