Booker Blasts 'Brinksmanship' of Government Shutdown in FDU Talk

U.S. Senate candidate says shutdown 'makes real people hurt,' according to news report.

U.S. Senate candidate Cory Booker used some of his time speaking at FDU Tuesday to criticize the federal government shutdown and his opponent's support of it.

While Steve Lonegan said of the shutdown Tuesday "bring it on" if it puts "America back on track," Booker told FDU students and professors that's no way to govern, according to a news report about his visit on the College at Florham campus.

"You cannot govern from manufactured brinksmanship that shakes our economy and makes real people hurt," The Star-Ledger quoted Booker as saying. "The end story of America is us finding ways to move forward despite our differences."

Lonegan, at a campaign stop in Galloway Township, said people still have their police, schools and libraries because "local government is the government that matters," according to an NBC40 report.
