Brick Deploys Sand Trucks to Tackle Surprise Snowstorm

Roads getting slick in November nor'easter

A nor'easter that has defied forecasts over the past several hours has dropped a blanket of wet snow on the Shore area, making roadways slick.

About an inch of measurable snow has accumulated on neighborhood streets throughout most of Brick Township, while a slushy mix has formed on major roads including the Garden State Parkway.

Brick Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis said Wednesday afternoon that Public Works Director Glenn Campbell had arranged for sand trucks to be out prior to the storm and had deployed them during the afternoon hours.

"There's a specific run they do for this type of precipitation," said Acropolis.

Though there is not enough measurable snow to plow, Acropolis said crews would begin working on main township roads.

County crews were seen spreading salt on county-controlled roads in town, including Burrsville Road and Jack Martin Boulevard.

A state truck was seen spreading salt on the northbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway near mile marker 90, the Brick exit.

The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly has predicted a mix of rain, snow and sleet will continue Wednesday night into the early morning hours Thursday. The overnight low is forecast to be 33 degrees.

No, but I am going to call the police this morning. My mom's cousin said last night that she thinks she is fine - they think she is staying w/ her grandson and just didn't take our phone #'s with her. I will still feel better after the police do a welfare check though.
