Candidates File for Municipal, County Elections

The deadline for candidates to file for partisan elections was Monday.

The filing deadline for candidates in partisan elections was Monday, April 11 at 4 p.m.

In Freehold Township, two three-year terms will be up for grabs in November. Freehold Township Mayor David Salkin and Committeeman Eugene Golub will seek re-election on the Republican ticket this year. The pair will face Democratic challengers Peter John Harrison and Jennie Jeannette “JJ” Mistretta.

A mayoral seat and two three-year Borough Council positions are up for election in Freehold Borough. On the Democratic ticket, J. Nolan Higgins will run uncontested for mayor. (Longtime Mayor Michael Wilson announced he would not seek re-election after 31 year on the Borough Council.) Incumbents Council President George Schnurr and Councilman Michael DiBenedetto will round out the Democratic slate. They will face Republicans MaryAnn Eare and Don Clayton.

At the county level, two Board of Chosen Freeholder seats and a surrogate positions are up for election. Republican Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, of Colts Neck, and Democratic Freeholder Amy Mallet, of Fair Haven, are seeking another three-year term. Burry’s running mate will be Gary Rick, of Spring Lake, while Mallet’s will be William Shea, of Howell. Democrat Michael Steinhorn, of Rumson, will look to unseat Republican Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie D. Peters.
