County Issues 200th Veteran ID Card
The County Clerk's Office has officially issued the area's 200th veterans ID.
The office of Monmouth County Clerk M. Claire French has now issued 200 veterans identification cards, which allow veterans to receive shopping discounts and other benefits even after their military service is over.
John A. Cohen of West Keansburg was the 200th veteran to be issued the identification card in Monmouth County. According to a press release from July 18, Cohen served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 as a nuclear weapons handler assigned to Fort Hancock in Sandy Hook.
“I believe it is our duty as Americans to do everything we can to honor our retired military,” French said. “That is why Monmouth County began issuing the veterans identification cards to Monmouth County veterans. It is my hope that all counties will provide this service for the veterans in their area.”

To get the card, veterans need to bring their original DD-214 (discharge papers) and a copy of their driver’s license to the clerk’s office. French said the process takes about 15 minutes.
Monmouth County also has a County Veterans Services Office (CVSO) that is housed in the Office on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans Services, located off of Court Street in Freehold, behind and to the west of the .
