The Borough Council approved a resolution to send a letter to NJ Transit for service to Matawan-Aberdeen Train Station.

The Freehold Borough Council will send a letter to NJ Transit requesting shuttle service from the Freehold Bus Station to the Matawan-Aberdeen Train Station. The governing body unanimously approved a resolution to draft the letter at the Monday, Feb. 7 meeting at town hall. Mayor Michael Wilson was absent.

Schnurr noted that currently only the 833 bus stops at Freehold Borough and a train station—Red Bank. “We know there’s a bus route that goes to Red Bank, but there are a lot of stops along the way and it’s a 45-minute trip,” Schnurr said.

With the Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex train line still being studied, Schnurr said it became necessary to consider how to facilitate access to rail for the region in the near future.

“What are we going to do about the here and now? There has to be some sort of link between the borough and a train station if you want to grow,” Schnurr said. “Shuttle service would open up a lot of possibilities.”
