Freehold Township Committee Passes $2.9M Bond Ordinance

The ordinance appropriates funds for capital improvement projects.

The Freehold Township Committee unanimously approved a bond ordinance appropriating $2.986 million for capital improvements during its regular meeting Thursday, Aug. 23 at Town Hall.

“The lion’s share of this is infrastructure improvements--storm drainage, concrete,” said Township Administrator Peter Valesi.

Proposed improvements to Wemrock Road and Gully Road account for $1.966 million, which includes a $200,000 Community Development Block Grant. The roadwork will include bituminous road overlay and road, sidewalk and curb repairs.

In addition, the ordinance appropriates $514,000 to upgrade the police department’s computer system, radios and other equipment and will enable the township to join a regional emergency services communications system in development by the county.

“This is not an imminent purchase. We want to get the debt squared away so that when the county trunk radio system is finished--which is anywhere from 18 months to two and a half years from now--we will be able to immediately be on their system. It’s a necessity,” Valesi said.
