Freehold Township Recognizes Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

The Freehold Township Committee presented two proclamations at their Tuesday night meeting in honor of addiction recovery.

The Freehold Township Committee has recognized the importance of helping those suffering with alcohol and drug addiction by dedicating an entire month to addiction recovery.

At the Tuesday night Freehold Township Committee meeting, Mayor Anthony Ammiano and Committeewoman Barbra McMorrow presented a proclamation to Lauren Mann, Coordinator of the Alliance to Prevent Substance Abuse, that names September “Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.”

“People often ask, ‘You do all this fundraising and have all these programs, but how does it help?’ and all I say to them is ‘let us not have these programs and see how much worse the problem is,” said McMorrow while presenting the proclamation to Mann.

In addition to naming September “Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month,” the Committee also awarded Mann with another proclamation naming Oct. 23 through Oct. 31 “Red Ribbon Week.”

Monmouth County Freeholder Thomas Arnone was present at the Tuesday night Committee meeting and commented on the dedication Freehold Township has to helping its residents suffering with addiction.

“I would like to commend the Mayor and Committee and Lauren because that [addiction] is something I feel really strongly about. I commend you all because not every town in the county takes such an aggressive approach as you all are with Red Ribbon Week and the Alliance.”
