Higgins to Run for Mayor

Freehold Borough Democrats announce slate for 2011 election.

The Freehold Borough Democrats nominated J. Nolan Higgins as their candidate for mayor in the 2011 election, the organization announced in a press release issued Thursday evening.

Higgins is the owner of Higgins Memorial Home in Freehold, a business established by his father in 1955. He is a former Freehold Borough Fire Department chief and has previously served as chairman of the Freehold Borough Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Higgins will run on a slate with incumbent councilmen Michael DiBenedetto and George Schnurr. DiBenedetto, Schnurr, and Councilman Kevin A. Kane had previously expressed interest in seeking the mayoral candidacy following Mayor Michael Wilson's announcement that he would not run for re-election after 31 years on the Borough Council.
