Originally brought up during the public comment section of the meeting Freehold Borough resident Tom Baldwin, brought up his concern of large leaf piles.

"I have seen cars drive into opposite lanes in order to avoid hitting large piles of leaves and it's dangerous" said Baldwin.

The council agrees that having leaves blown far out into the streets is a danger to residents and drivers.

Police Chief Glenn Roberts has been asked by the council to have police patrol all major streets to keep an eye on leaf piles that go too far into the road and cause drivers to swerve into other lanes. Councilman George Schnurr also asks residents to blow back leaves towards the house if they are blown too far into the street.  Residents will recieve a  notice for leaf piles that are too far into the street which may result into a summons if the leaves are not taken care of.

Similar to the leaf dilemma, is the topic of snow removal. With last year’s intense snow storms still fresh in residents minds, the council is asking residents and businesses to try to remove snow from sidewalks as soon as the last flake falls.  According to Councilman George Schnurr, a municipal ordinance requires businesses and homes in the business district have 12 hours to remove snow from their walkway and homes have 24 hours to clean their walkway.

Schnurr has also asked the Freehold Borough police to write summons to those who do not make any effort to remove snow within 24-hours of the last snow flake.
